What is cpe?

Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) is an experiential training program in pastoral/spiritual care using an action/reflection model of learning, supplemented with teaching sessions and reading. Participants explore how to be present to others who are experiencing distress and how to offer grounded spiritual interventions informed by self-awareness and best practice.

WHAT OUR PARTICIPANTS SAY

My CPE experience was invaluable, helping develop my interpersonal skills through close supervision, peer feedback, and over 200 hours offering spiritual assessment and care to patients, families and staff. As a result, my capacity to listen deeply to others with acceptance, empathy and compassion has grown in leaps and bounds. Ultimately, my ability to offer holistic, person-centred care has improved immeasurably and for this I will be eternally grateful.

Lily Stieler

CPE programme has enabled me to connect with my inner self at a deeper level and has created fresh awareness in me while being attentive to my thoughts and emotions. The relationships with my peers have challenged me to reflect on my experiences in a new light and further grow and observe my responses. Supervisory sessions have offered me the ability to claim my learnings and acquire the skills necessary to spiritually care for myself and develop my identity as a pastoral person.

Lloyd D’Souza

CPE is a deeply rewarding course of study. I learned a great deal about my own behaviour, motivations, and patterns, and grew in my ability to respond to the needs of those to whom I offer pastoral care. I grew in my ability to theologically reflect. Group work was mutually supportive, and close supervision pushed me to explore some difficult issues, providing support along the way.

Grahame Bowland

CPE provided me with the environment, learning and tools to effectively minister to people in their time of need. The opportunity to be with people in their most vulnerable hour is an invaluable experience. The CPE experience is like no other. As a result of CPE, I have significantly grown in understanding of the human person (of both myself and others), strengthened in my convictions, and deepened in faith, hope and charity. I highly recommend this program and will certainly be applying for the advanced format in the future.
